In a community of African decent, Adelaida is forced to stand up to her brother, when he comes back into town ready to sell the family´s ancestral estate.

 

The siblings make a deal: If Adelaida raises the money before their ill father’s death, Ángel will leave town. With the help of Pâe Gamboa, the local priest, Adelaida struggles to come up with the money.

 

Faced with the loss of her land and the murder of her husband, Adelaida leaves town and migrates upstream in the search of a new life. Pae Gamboa, threatened by gunmen, leaves his parish and tags along in the trip.
